Why a Fire TV Stick
The Fire TV Stick is a small player that plugs into your TV's HDMI port and comes with its own remote. It is an easy way to add video apps to a TV that is not smart, or whose system has no compatible IPTV player.
Under the hood it runs an Android-based system, so it supports most IPTV player apps designed for television.
Which model to choose
Newer models have more memory and a faster processor, which shows when loading large playlists and the programme guide.

Preparing the device
- Plug the stick into the TV's HDMI port and into mains power with its own adapter, not a USB port on the TV.
- Connect it to the internet and update the system from Settings.
- Search for the player app in the Fire TV store.
- If it is not there, go to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer options and allow installs from unknown sources for your downloader app.
- Install the player app and open it.
Loading your details
Inside the app, add a new profile. If you choose Xtream Codes, enter username, password and server URL; if you prefer M3U, enter the full link. On a Fire TV Stick, Xtream Codes is usually more practical because the details are short and the app loads the guide and categories by itself.

Tips for smooth playback
- Use an Ethernet adapter for the stick if the Wi-Fi signal is weak.
- If you use Wi-Fi, connect to the 5 GHz band.
- Clear the app's cache from Settings > Applications if things feel slow.
- Uninstall apps you do not use to free up memory.
- Restart the stick now and then by holding down Select and Play.
If the app does not accept your details
Check that you entered the full server URL, including http:// or https:// and the port if there is one, and that the username and password match upper and lower case exactly. If it still fails, try the M3U link instead of Xtream Codes: the content is the same, and it tells you whether the problem lies with the app or with the details.
